About the Education Program

Chamber Music Society of Detroit

Founded over 70 years ago by legendary music educator and radio personality, Karl Haas, the Chamber Music Society of Detroit is one of the most highly-respected chamber music organizations in the United States.  The Chamber Music Society’s Discovery Series Education Program is larger and more comprehensive than it has ever been, with several residency ensembles providing lecture demonstrations, coaching sessions and master classes.

Program Goals

The Chamber Music Society of Detroit’s educational outreach programs are a key part of its mission to enrich the educational and cultural life of the community.  The goals of these programs are to:

  • provide quality musical experiences for young people;
  • partner with public, private and charter schools to supplement current music programs;
  • expand collaborations with community organizations to reach greater numbers of disadvantaged young people, particularly in inner-city communities and communities without access to live arts experiences;
  • encourage long-term concert attendance by young people;
  • provide world-class instruction for emerging instrumental students; and
  • provide inspiring role models for students of all ages and backgrounds.

The Chamber Music Society of Detroit’s educational programs fall into four distinct strands described in more detail on the following pages.
